How many blocks does this quilt actually need?
This computes a real medallion layout: a center grid of hero blocks surrounded by a ring of border blocks, sized to land as close as possible to your target quilt size. Adjust the numbers, then generate the board.
Sashing adds one uninterrupted frame of solid fabric between the hero core and the border ring — set it to 0 for no sashing (blocks sewn edge to edge).
Backing & batting
Based on the finished size above, plus a safety margin on every side for shifting while you hand-quilt in a hoop or frame.
Since this one's hand-quilted: reach for a low-loft cotton or wool batting rather than polyester or a high-loft poly-blend — it needles far more easily and gives the traditional flatter, close-stitched look instead of a puffy machine-quilted one.
